MOBILITY AND EXCHANGE

The University of Belgrade welcomes international students and staff to its 31 schools and 11 institutes under several mobility and exchange programs.

In this section you will find important information about mobility at the University of Belgrade.

STUDENT MOBILITY

attending a part of a study program (one or two semesters) at a foreign university, at both undergraduate and (post)graduate levels.

Visiting students receive a diploma from their home university, with a supplement to confirm that they have spent a certain part of their studies at the University of Belgrade. All the exams that visiting students have successfully passed during their mobility at the University of Belgrade are stated in the transcript of records, issued by their host-faculty of University of Belgrade at the end of their mobility.

Exchange students can spend one or two semesters at the University of Belgrade. However, certain exchange programs offer a possibility for short-term stays.

Important: Prospective exchange students should first get all the key information and requirements from their home university. Furthermore, specific requirements and procedures of different exchange types and programs must be carefully examined.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE

Please note that the visiting students or staff may not apply for mobility at any Faculty/School of the University of Belgrade without the previous nomination of their home university addressed to the International Relations Office of the University of Belgrade, and without subsequent official consent of the authorities of the specific UB faculty in question to accept them as a visiting student/staff.

The International Relations Office of the University of Belgrade or any faculty/school of the University of Belgrade do not accept direct mobility applications from foreign students or staff.

Nominations of the EXCHANGE or MOBILITY candidates are forwarded to the International Relations Office of the University of Belgrade by e-mail or post by the relevant International Coordinator of the foreign university (e.g. Erasmus Office, International Relations Office, Global Mobility Office, etc.). The nomination e-mail should include the relevant institutional signature at the end of the e-mail or a nomination letter on the sending institution’s official letterhead.

The nomination letter/email and the accompanying documents must be either in the Serbian (BCS) or the English language and should include the following:

1. Mandatory information about the candidate

  • Name and Surname
  • Type of Mobility (student, teaching staff, training staff)
  • Mobility program (e.g.: Erasmus+, CEEPUS, Bilateral inter-university cooperation, Circle U., Freemover, etc.)
  • Contact details, including candidate’s email address
  • Preferred dates of the mobility stay, semester and the academic year
  • For students: Current study cycle, current year of study
  • For students and staff: Study/Research field

Optional information (I/A)

  • Birthdate
  • Passport number
  • Name of the study program/department at home university
  • Faculty/School of the University of Belgrade the candidate wants to attend

Additionally, after the official nomination, the nominated candidate will be asked to submit the following accompanying documents (either by email, or via mobility platform, subject to the cooperation program requirements)

2. Candidate’s relevant CV with a photo

3. For staff and PhD students: general work/research plan

4. For all students: Preliminary Learning Agreement

5. Transcript of Records

6. Any other information or document, required within the specific mobility program. Please check this section’s menu to learn more about your preferred mobility program offered at the University of Belgrade.

Important:

The candidate must select a specific Faculty/School of the University of Belgrade that corresponds to the candidate’s major study field at his/her home university. Students are required to select from a list of courses taught at the University of Belgrade and to include the preferred courses in the preliminary Learning Agreement, as a part of their application.

Before sending a nomination or application under any type of mobility please get familiar with the conditions, rules and procedures of a specific cooperation model and learn more about any additional documents that are required within it.

Official nomination from the candidate’s home university and subsequent application by the nominated candidate, followed by the official acceptance of the candidate to the UB faculty in question, are mandatory prerequisites for any mobility to take place.

Once nominated by the relevant International Coordinator at their home university, the nominated candidates will be put in touch with the International Office of the University of Belgrade for further administrative correspondence, as well as with the relevant Academic and/or Administrative Coordinator, respectively, at the host-faculty of the University of Belgrade.

Additionally, candidates nominated under the framework of Erasmus+ and Circle U. cooperation are requested to register and submit the required application documents within the online mobility platform of the University of Belgrade, at the following link: https://mobion.bg.ac.rs/.

Only those applications submitted by the candidates previously officially nominated under the framework of Erasmus+ and Circle U. cooperation will be accepted. Individual and direct applications sent to the University of Belgrade are not accepted.

Nominations from the relevant International Coordinator at the partner university are accepted by the deadlines determined within the specific mobility program.

Please find below the tentative deadlines for nominations and applications for the relevant mobility program at the University of Belgrade:

For mobility to take place in the 1st (autumn) semesterFor mobility to take place in the 2nd (spring) semester

Nomination by the relevant International Coordinator must reach the University of Belgrade by: April 15th

Applications by nominated students must reach the University of Belgrade by: May 15th

Nomination by the relevant International Coordinator must reach the University of Belgrade by: October 15th

Applications by nominated students must reach the University of Belgrade by: November 15th

Selection of students and staff to be nominated to the University of Belgrade by the relevant International Coordinator of the sending institution shall be carried out by their home university in a just, objective and transparent manner, with equal opportunities for all candidates.

Only those nominations/applications sent in a timely manner and fulfilling all requirements and procedures, will be taken into consideration by the University of Belgrade.

Final decision on accepted candidates is made by the relevant receiving faculty/school or institute of the University of Belgrade, in accordance with the procedures and the time frame determined by the mobility program or by the relevant agreement and are subject to the hosting institution’s available capacities for some programs.

For applications submitted through the MobiON mobility platform: only those applications submitted by the candidates previously officially nominated under the framework of Erasmus+ and Circle U. cooperation will be accepted for the selection process. Individual and direct applications are not accepted.

The following documents should be submitted: 

1) A hard copy (original) of the letter by the Dean of the Faculty of the University of Belgrade organizing the study program the candidate is attending. This letter should be written on the Faculty’s letterhead and should contain the following information: – the Dean’s proposal to the Rector of the University of Belgrade to sign the Cotutelle Agreement with the partner university; – a statement that all expenses that have occurred at the University of Belgrade but are not defined under the terms of the Agreement shall be covered by the Faculty; 

2) Confirmation of enrollment at the doctoral studies program at the University of Belgrade. The confirmation should contain the following information: – the name of the study program; – a confirmation that the student is enrolled in the current academic year of the program; – the information about the student’s status for that academic year (student who is funded from the budget of the Republic of Serbia / self-funded student); – the year when the student was enrolled in doctoral studies for the first time; – the number of ECTS acquired at the doctoral studies program prior to the issuing of this (unless they have enrolled at the first year of studies for the first time in that academic year); 

3) The decision of the Academic Council of the Faculty about appointing the thesis advisor to the student; Please note: If the student does not have a thesis advisor appointed at the University of Belgrade, they should then submit a Statement of the proposed advisor in which the advisor accepts to guide the Student through the course of their research work and the work on the doctoral thesis (“Thesis Advisor’s Statement”); 

4) The decision of the relevant body of the University which approves the doctoral thesis title. Please note: If the Student does not yet have the approval of the title of the doctoral thesis, it is necessary to submit a Statement of the thesis advisor which will also contain the working title of the thesis. 

5) Confirmation of enrollment in doctoral studies at the partner university. The confirmation should contain the following information: – the name of the study program and its duration; – a confirmation that the students is enrolled in the current academic year of the program; – the year when the student enrolled in doctoral studies for the first time – the working title of the doctoral thesis; 

6) Calendar – the schedule of the student’s attendance at partner universities, respectively, signed by both thesis advisors. 

7) The name and contact details of the person responsible for communicating the working details of the Agreement on behalf of the partner institution in question (administrative contact); 

8) The student’s contact details (address, contact phone number, email address). 

The procedure for submitting the documents to the University of Belgrade by the student 

The student may submit the required documents in two ways: 
a) by post, to the following address:

PLEASE NOTE: The student’s documentation will be processed only after the student has submitted a complete file with all required documents, in either of the two ways listed above. The documents submitted in electronic form will not be considered eligible for further processing of the request (i.e., until hard copies of the above-listed documents have reached the relevant Office of the University).
